EASTLAND CHURCH OF CHRIST
Today, being the Lord's Day, it was time to head for church and worship with some of our fellow brethren. Last night I had searched the Internet, our nation's super highway, and located a congregation of the Lord's people on our side of town.
We failed to make it in time for Bible Class but walked in about ten minutes prior to worship. We were immediately greeted by 3 or 4 men out in the Foyer and were sincerely welcomed. The auditorium was practically empty as we walked in, so we had our choice of seats, except for the back row that was already filled. One young man said we could sit anywhere. I mentioned that in our congregation we have members who tend to claim a particular seat by default, and might look at you funny if you sat in their chair! The young man said they had some like that, too! Ha!
People began coming in from Bible Classes and nearly filled the seats. For the next ten minutes we were inundated with people shaking hands and introducing themselves. Not only that, but they seemed genuinely interested in who we were, where we came from and wanted to know about our travels. We felt very welcomed and comfortable to be here. I wish I could recall their names, but at my age I can barely remember my own! But the young couple in front of us with the twins made a huge impact on us because of their sincerity. Not only them, but several others were like that! Afterwards, there were more! One of the men who first met us in the Foyer came by and actually called us by name! *Sigh. If only I had a memory!
Thank you, EASTLAND Church of Christ! You were a welcomed contrast to the Missouri Church where only one lady came over and shook hands with my wife. Keep connecting with your visitors and you will find more returning!
