MAID OF THE MIST
Our night in the corner room on the 15th floor of The Oaks Hotel gave us a great view of Niagara Falls! We pulled the curtains back, moved our cushy chairs up close to the window and took it all in.
The next day we took a drive into the countryside to look around. There were many winery's along this stretch of the Niagara River. We decided to take a look inside a couple of them to see what the fuss was about. They were beautiful inside and out.
We decided it was time to head for the border in case it took a while. It ended up being faster to enter the USA than it took to enter Canada. That surprised me!
We got a room in The Days Inn. We spent the night with a view of Canada out our window. The next morning we wolfed down hot coffee and breakfast at Denny's. it's not Cracker Barrel but its always open. It's also getting very expensive and the food less desirable. It's probably our taste buds!
A 9:00 AM we headed for the Visitors Center and got in line to buy tickets for the MAID OF THE MIST, the "must do" boat ride on the Niagara, up close and personal, to the raging falls.
For $15.50/ea, (plus the $10.00 parking fee) we got a 20 minute ride on the Maid of the Mist. The Poncho they handed us kept us much drier than I had imagined it would! The air was heavy with mist being kicked up by the tons of water falling the 173'. I was intimidating to approach such a height of a massive amount of water, watching it draw nearer and nearer. The roar of the water was as loud as the mist was thick! Electronics were kept safely tucked away under the plastic Ponchos!
This ride was the first voyage of the season from American shores. Today marks the beginning of the tourist season, I suppose. This was OUR first time, too!
