JELLY BELLY FACTORY

We drove west, headed for the Jelly Belly Factory, in Fairfield, CA. We got there a few minutes before it opened and conveniently parked near the front door. As they were not expecting us, we were able to make our way in and around the facility without fanfare. We signed up for the factory tour and were first in line. Only a handful joined us as we began our tour. Our well informed guide did an excellent job of taking us around, showing us the different aspects of jelly bean making and all the history of how it started.

It was a great tour even though it was Saturday and all the workers were off today. We were given samples of jelly bellys along the way, even chocolate covered kinds. They were always open to hearing from people who had ideas of new flavors; be they adults or kids. Which probably explains why there are flavors such as "wooden pencil, bugger and barf". I doubt if kids would ever suggest those!

They also make other candies including the famous "Candy Corn" and those yummy gummy Peach Rings that I love to take backpacking! So we bought some goodies to eat along the way, including a big package of BELLY FLOPS! Yes, life is good at the candy factory.

And as the late Jackie Gleason would say, "HOW SWEET IT IS !"
