HARPERS FERRY, WEST VIRGINIA

HARPERS FERRY, WV

Today was a long drive from Lexington, KY to Harpers Ferry, WV, but we made it! The drive was fast and oftentimes furious, but the countryside was beautiful. Trees were beginning to bud and the Cherry Blossoms are filling out. The Dogwood blooms were full and plentiful. The Eastern Red Bud trees are full of color and just getting started.

We saw 5 different herds of wild Turkey alongside the highway. Those big Gobblers are a sight to see! Most of those we spied were in the Daniel Boone National Forest. At 70 mph we had no time to turn on the camera for a picture!

The vistas were beautiful to see. The KY, MD and WV countryside has more hills than valleys! Beautiful rolling hills cover this whole area! It was a beautiful sunny day. The temperature was 76 and the sky was spotted with clouds. Why, there was even snow on the sides of the highway on top of Negro Mountain and within 30 miles of there. I suppose it was what's left of the 4 or 5 inches they received last week. Google says its not uncommon for that mountain to get 3 or 4 feet of snow! I'm just glad it wasn't today!

It's exciting to be in Harpers Ferry and to start exploring around tomorrow. I plan to take a 10 mile hike along the Appalachian Trail and see what kind of trouble I can get into!

Keep the Saint Bernard handy and the keg full!
