DAY 22 -- 7 September 2012
We are on our way to Prague in the Czech Republic. We were up at 0700 getting ready for a day of travel, packing our luggage down the stairs from our third floor hotel room. A quick breakfast and coffee, we said our auf wiedersehen's to our wonderful hosts at Pension Peters Hotel and headed for the main train station. The train we were trying to catch was leaving at 10:45. Unfortunately we did not anticipate that Lufthansa Airlines would be on strike, thus tying up train transportation as well! We had not made advanced train reservations (as we should have because we were having too much fun sightseeing) and all seats were full. We opted for the 12:46 train to Prague, instead.
The countryside is beautiful. We were following a fast moving river below green forested mountains with volcanic cliffs. As we rolled into the Czech Republic, the river calmed down enough to reflect images like a mirror. The billboards and town names changed into Czech words. Building architecture is old, dating all the way back to the 9th century. Newer archecture was interesting and often bordered on unsightly.
We were met by Jiri, our apartment host, at the train station. He drove us to our apartment where we met his wife, Jana, and treated us like we were important, or something.
We stopped by the ATM to get some Czech Crowns to buy a few groceries and go out to dinner.
Time to settle down in our easy chairs, watch a little TV, Blog and catch up on Facebook! Life is good!
