VIRGINIA

VIRGINIA
July 3, 2015

Leaving the Branson area we made our way eastward towards my brother's place in Virginia.  Our last night in Missouri was greeted by a large thunderstorm full of lightening, thunder and heavy rain. It was very loud that night!  Reports of flash flooding and tornados to the north made the morning news.

Our drive was interrupted with a closed bridge, probably caused by high water flooding its banks. A semi-truck, attempting to turn around, grounded itself by high centering, blocking both lanes. The shouldered grassy area was too close to a wet ditch for me.  I told Debby to NOT slow down as we went around the truck...to keep the momentum going, else we might sink down in the soft ground. We made it.

The remaining bridges and roads were high enough to cross the swollen rivers and sloughs without issue.  The long drive across Missouri, Kentucky and West Virginia came with many rain showers. Visibility was extremely low in several areas.  There were still "idjits" driving too fast to be safe.  Hey!  But who am I to stereotype?

We arrived later than we had hoped.  The rain and July 4th traffic slowed things down a little. We cruised into Singers Glen at my brother's place before dark and spent the night.  Katie had created a batch of great chili and had it waiting on us.

The next two nights we stayed with my Nephew and his family, Joel and Jessica and baby Lauren.  One or two more days and we might have made friends with Lauren.  She wasn't sure about these two strangers invading her space.

We had a great visit.  We got to go to their Mennonite church on Sunday.  That was a treat.  We treated them to dinner at Cracker Barrel that evening and headed for Raleigh, NC the next morning.
